On July 24, 1867 Mrs. Thurston Warren was murdered by Sioux Indians as she stood in the doorway of her log cabin home located one-half mile north of this spot.

When found her baby Thomas was still clasped in his mothers arms. Another son was severly wounded but he recovered.
